Orla Mellon Art
Rich & Vibrant images for Life
I’m Orla Mellon & I am passionate about painting animals & nature, honing my fascination with the subject into my art, which juxtaposes pattern and vibrant colour beside beautiful creatures, so connected to me and to the earth itself.
As a child, my father took me fishing & hunting for rabbits. This imbued a deep appreciation of where my food comes from, and a connection to the animals & to nature we so often take for granted.
It wouldn’t take long before these visceral experiences found their way into my art.
I currently work from home in my studio in Dublin.
I hope you will enjoy looking at my work.
My First Art Source..
This year I decided to take the bull by the horns and feel the fear!! The fear being, Art Source!! For those who don't know what Art Source is, its Dublin's most exciting art event of the year, featuring 200 Irish & International artists & galleries gathering together to showcase painting, sculpture, photography, illustration & ceramic and textile art.
This whole experience for me was a total rollercoaster.
The stressful months leading up to it, worrying if I had enough paintings done or not? Was I good enough? Was I out of my depth?
I put the blinkers on & the head down & tried my hardest not to think about it negatively & to stay positive. Then I started to enjoy the pressure & the whole creative process. Thats what I love to do!! I love to create pieces of art, to make someone smile & cheer them up. Thats good enough for me
I met so many lovely people & artists alike. Some who were doing it for the first time also & those with a wealth of knowledge, having exhibited at Art Source for 11 years.
One of the things I enjoyed to see at the exhibition, was the reaction people had when they see my work. This was a smile!
I am so grateful in having done this & will I do it again? I think I will..

Art Source Testimonial -
Spent a wonderful couple of hours at Art Source enjoying a truly eclectic offering of imaginative, creative and innovative work. Amongst the exhibitors we were especially drawn to the very colourful and playful art by the bubbly and charming Orla Mellon who combines stunning Irish wildlife subjects; from the commonplace cow to the more aloof fox or owl with quirky vintage backgrounds, bursts of delightful vibrant colours with masterful detail. A feast for the eyes.

My Bee Corner...
These were part of a joint exhibition with Ali_P, in the Icon Factory in October- "Wee Winged Wild Wonders" This exhibition was to raise awareness of our biodiversity. A lot of people loved them at Art Source & was only too happy to talk about it.
Being an artist can sometime be quite lonely, but one woman has changed all of this. Thank you Tara Boo for creating this amazing community!! Being part of this community helped so much in my Art Source journey.

“Lucky for me, my husband likes a pint and was having a drink in Grogans in Dublin city centre when he spotted a painting of a stag on the wall.
I rang Grogans and they kindly put me in touch with Orla. Orla was a pleasure to deal with and we decided to get the stag on a bigger canvas and also get a fox. We live beside the Phoenix Park in the strawberry beds so both pieces seemed very fitting.
We love the vibrant colors and hang Orla’s artwork proudly in our home.

“I got Orla to Commision a cow picture for my new build. It's the centre peace in our open plan kitchen living and dining room and we absolutely love it . Orla was a pleasure to work with taking in all our crazy.”
“Orla painted a pet portrait of our boxer Zoe a few years ago, and I can honestly say it's one of my favourite things we have in our home. The painting is so beautiful. The colours are so vibrant and there is so much texture, and the likeness to Zoe is spot on. As much as I love all these aspects about the painting, my favourite thing about it, is how Orla managed to capture Zoe's personality. I don't know how she did it....but she did!!!! Thank you so much Orla, we love it!”
